The lacquer is best known for its effects on the gastritis, tumor on ovary or uterus, prevention of decomposition, or hangover solution.
In 1997, the research team of the forest tree breeding laboratory from Korea forest service, under the supervision of Dr. Chun-Soo Na, is recognized for its extraction of MU2 that contains the substance with anticancer effect from the lacquer tree. As broadleaf tree, the lacquer tree is originated from China and its lacquer has been used for the lacquered ware, paint for various tools, and adhesive for wooden products. To touch the lacquer, the hand and face should be covered with oil and the possibility to be poisoned with lacquer is lower.
There are two types of the lacquer; fresh lacquer and dry lacquer. The dry lacquer is made from drying of the resin collected from the cut of the lacquer tree. The color of the fresh resin is gray. But it becomes dark-red when the resin is dry. This status of the resin has small holes that look like honeycomb. It is shiny and is easily broken. It destroys the chronic extravasated blood and disassembles the substance that sinks and hardens. It also has the improving effect of extermination of insects and constipation.
The fresh lacquer is careful to use due to its toxicity. When the lacquer is heated and carbonized in a concealed pot, its toxicity is reduced and there is no damage on stomach. In this status the lacquer could be used for medicinal purpose. When the lacquer is cooked in a chicken, the dish is called the broiled lacquer chicken.
The lacquer has the strong toxicity with the powerful property of medicine. The boiled lacquer chicken is made from the lacquer with those natures. Therefore, it is not good for people who is pregnant or has allergy, high blood pressure, or weak liver.
The boiled lacquer chicken has the excellent effect on the leukorrhea and menstrual irregularity of women and reduces fatigue. It makes blood clean and protects the liver function. It also is good for arthritis. It is excellent for the stamina of men to recover the function of the liver that is damaged by alcohol.
